Viola hederacea, commonly called Native Violet, is a low-growing evergreen ground cover native to Australia. It forms a dense mat of heart-shaped leaves and delicate pale mauve to white flowers through cooler months, creating soft, natural-looking carpets ideal for shady gardens, underplanting, and revegetation projects. It attracts small native insects and provides habitat for ground-dwelling wildlife. Excellent ground cover, lawn alternative in shady areas, or under storey planting; naturalises easily and helps suppress weeds; low maintenance once established

Fertilising: Light application of low-phosphorus native-friendly or organic fertiliser in spring if growth is poor

Pruning & Maintenance: Trim back lightly to remove runners and tidy edges, divide clumps occasionally to rejuvenate

Commonly know as Kidney Weed, Dichondra repens is native to New Zealand and many parts of Australia.

Dichondra is an excellent groundcover and will spread by putting its’ own roots where each node meets the soil, making it an ideal lawn substitute in cooler areas of Australia or in small and partly shaded gardens in other areas where lawn mowers are hard to use.

Dichondra is best used between informal stepping stones and to fill small gaps in gardens. Dichondra is waterwise and frost resistant once established. Dichondra repens will only grow to 10 centermetres high by 30 centermetres wide. For best coverage, break plants apart to cover a larger area.

Dymondia Margaretae is a hardy, flat ground cover with greyish leaves. It produces dainty, yellow, daisy-like flowers from spring to autumn.  The plant forms a dense mound and is ideal for growing along borders, in rockeries, on sloping sites, seaside gardens, pots and mass planting as a ground cover.

Care

Once established this plant has excellent drought and heat tolerance. Thrives in full sun in well draining soils.

Blue fescue has striking icy blue foliage all year round. A very versatile grass, it is drought tolerant and easy to grow. It is compact with a clump-forming, mounding habit and is therefore fantastic to plant en masse as a border plant, or as an accent plant in garden beds. Blue Fescue will also do well in containers.

Care

Plant in a well drained soil, in a sunny to part shade location. It is dry tolerant with minimal water once established. If foliage starts to dry out, prune back hard and watch it re-sprout.
