It forms a dense mat of heart-shaped leaves and delicate pale mauve to white flowers through cooler months, creating soft, natural-looking carpets ideal for shady gardens, underplanting, and revegetation projects. It attracts small native insects and provides habitat for ground-dwelling wildlife. Excellent ground cover, lawn alternative in shady areas, or under storey planting; naturalises easily and helps suppress weeds; low maintenance once established

Commonly know as Kidney Weed, Dichondra repens is native to New Zealand and many parts of Australia.

Dichondra is an excellent groundcover and will spread by putting its’ own roots where each node meets the soil, making it an ideal lawn substitute in cooler areas of Australia or in small and partly shaded gardens in other areas where lawn mowers are hard to use.

Dichondra is best used between informal stepping stones and to fill small gaps in gardens. Dichondra is waterwise and frost resistant once established. Dichondra repens will only grow to 10 centermetres high by 30 centermetres wide. For best coverage, break plants apart to cover a larger area.

Care

Dichondra is waterwise and frost resistant once established. Dichondra repens will only grow to 10 centermetres high by 30 centermetres wide. For best coverage, break plants apart to cover a larger area. Does best in a sunny to part shaded position, shelter from the hot afternoon sun is best.

An attractive, evergreen ornamental grass with dark green leaves. Dwarf Mondo is low growing making it perfect to plant as small borders or in between pavers. Can also be used in rockeries or in areas receiving lots of foot traffic. Will also do well under trees.

Care

Plant in a full sun to partly shaded position with moist well drained soil. Low maintenance once established but keep moist during dry weather. Apply a controlled release fertiliser annually to maintain healthy foliage.
