Narrow Leaf Chalksticks is a low-growing, hardy succulent with slender, blue-green cylindrical leaves that form a neat, spreading mat. Its cool, architectural foliage adds a modern, sculptural texture to rockeries, groundcovers, coastal gardens, and succulent mixes.

Perfect for mass planting, groundcover, borders, rockeries, or containers. Extremely drought-tolerant and low-maintenance, it suits contemporary landscapes, coastal sites, and waterwise gardens.

Care

Light: Thrives in full sun to part shade
Soil: Prefers poor to moderately fertile, well-drained sandy or gravelly soils
Climate: Withstands heat, dry conditions, coastal exposure, and light frost
Fertilising: Apply a light, balanced or slow-release fertiliser in spring if needed
Watering: Very low water requirements once established; water sparingly and allow soil to dry between watering
Pruning & Maintenance: Trim back leggy growth or spent stems to maintain a tidy habit; remove old growth as needed

Height & Width: 30 cm tall × 60 cm wide

Description: Tasred® Dianella will often get a red base in cold climates, or even change from green to green with reddish tinges at times.

It has a dense tidy appearance with beautiful wide leaves and large purple berries in spring and summer, and is a great alternative to Phormium.

Great erosion control capabilities strenthenging the soil 215% (2007 Paananen, Layt; Study).

Size: 45cm high x 40-50cm wide.

Planting Density: 4-6 plants per m², 2-4 plants per linear metre.

Uses: Mass plantings, low water gardens, Japanese style gardens and accent planting.

Position: Full sun to heavy shade. Tolerates frost and heat. Tasred® Dianella suits sandy, sandy loam and clay soils. Avoid very poor soils.

Care: Water as required for 8-13 weeks until established. Plant in a well mulched garden (chunky mulch is recommended). Ensure crown or base of plant is not below soil or mulch level.

If required use slow release fertiliser in spring. Trim older leaves as required and cut back halfway every 3-7 years to encourage new growth (will look better with pruning every 3 years, this depends on your requirements).

Senecio Blue Chalk Sticks

Blue Chalk Sticks is a very attractive spreading succulent with fleshy, chalky blue finger shaped leaves. Insignificant white daisy like flowers appear in summer.

Care

Prefers a full sun or part shade position in well drained soil. Very drought tolerant requiring little water once established, but will grow quicker with regular watering. Great for garden beds, borders, rockeries and when mass planted. Also ideal for pots and containers and coastal gardens. Senecio Blue Chalk Sticks will grow to a height of 30-60cm and a width of 60-90cm.

Sedum ‘Green Blob’

A fast-growing, evergreen groundcover succulent with vibrant green rounded foliage. In Autumn, petite clusters of pink flowers dress the foliage. Suitable for gardens or containers.

Care

Ensure the soil is well draining and the location is sunny. Once established, water sparingly – only when foliage appears to be softening or ‘shrinking’ – typically during extended periods of heat. No other maintenance is generally required although if grown in containers an addition of a slow-release fertiliser during spring would be beneficial.

Echeveria ‘Violet Queen’

Echeveria Violet Queen is an evergreen perennial succulent forming clumps of rosette-shaped heads. The leaves are silvery-green in color and grow close together. The tips of the leaves have a tinge of pink.

Care

Plant in an area of your garden that gets 6 hours of sunlight a day. Does not require much water as they store water in their fleshy leaves. Wait until the soil has dried out completely before watering your plant, and then give it a good watering, making sure the excess water drains out when planting in pots.

Echeveria ‘Imbricata’

A small, evergreen succulent, forming tight rosettes of fleshy, saucer-shaped, blue-green leaves. It grows very quickly and vigorously and produces “pups” very freely to create a mounded cluster. Suitable for a medium to a large pot, but also looking great in the garden as a fun and interesting groundcover.

Care

When first potted, they will require more water, once established they will need less water. Allow the soil to dry between watering. This low-growing succulent does not require grooming. But, if you notice the lower leaves shriveling, pull them off to allow healthy leaves to grow in their place.

Crassula capitella ‘Campfire’

This fast-growing succulent has green, propeller-shaped leaves that can turn bright red in full sun or cool weather. Flowers are white and appear in clusters during summer. It has been used in many gardens, landscapes, and atriums due to its ability to grow well in dry conditions

Care

When grown outdoors, they need to be planted in a location that allows them to get at least 6 hours of sunlight. If grown indoors, they should be located in a room that receives plenty of natural sunlight. Grows well in dry, sandy soils with sparse watering. The soil should be allowed to completely dry out before watering again.

Sea Urchin Aloe is an architectural and clean blue/green foliage plant that produces orange flowers in winter or spring. The clumping form of this Aloe has a more compact, tight density than other common varieties to make it stand out among others plants.

Care

Plant in a well mulched garden (chunky mulch is recommended). Water as required for 8-13 weeks until established. Use slow release fertiliser yearly. Cut back every 4-5 years if required.

Crassula dunia are succulent, herbaceous plants. Suitable in pots and for rock gardens as long as the soil is well drained. Crassulas can easily be grown from leaf cuttings. Thick leaves are often covered with hair or ‘meal’ and flowers are usually small in size and borne on terminal panicles.

Care

Hardy and easy to take care of, prefers a warm and sunny position with free draining soil and regular watering. Remove damaged or yellowing leaves as they occur.

Also known as Burro’s tail, this succulent can be happy growing in the morning sunlight and sandy soil. However, it is crucial for you to know the appropriate growing conditions for donkey’s tail, so that you can provide it with the best care.

Care

Make sure to check the soil often. It is recommended to water your burro’s tail once in every 14 days. Do not overwater it or else your lovely succulent will rot out. If inside, room temperature is fine during summers. During winters, keep your plant where the temperature is not below 10 degrees celsius.
